A safety system is not an ordinary accessory
A tail lift safety system directly affects the safety of operators. When choosing a supplier, do not compare prices alone. Evaluate suppliers across the following areas.
1. Is the product compliant?
- Is the system claimed to comply with standards such as EN1756-1:2021 and ISO 13854:2019?
- Do sensor spacing and detection distances meet the Hong Kong Labour Department guidance updated in May 2025?
- Does the supplier provide product documentation, installation certificates and related paperwork?
2. Is the design registered or tested?
Design registration (for example with the Hong Kong Intellectual Property Department) can show that a supplier values its original design. A registration number also makes it easier to trace the product later.
3. Is installation support provided?
- Does the supplier have a team familiar with tail lift structures?
- Are post-installation tests and operating instructions provided?
- How long does installation take, and can it fit the fleet schedule?
4. Are parts and maintenance convenient?
- Are sensors, brackets and cables readily available?
- Are regular inspections and repair services offered?
- Is after-sales contact easy (phone, WhatsApp and so on)?
5. Does the supplier understand local requirements?
Hong Kong tail lift safety requirements are not necessarily the same as overseas markets. A supplier should understand local guidance and industry practice, and be able to recommend a suitable configuration for each vehicle.
Questions to prepare
- Does this system support infrared or laser sensors? Can they be interchanged?
- How many bracket options are there? Do I need a single-, dual- or triple-sensor setup?
- How long does installation take, and what tests follow?
- What is the maintenance schedule? What checks are needed monthly and half-yearly?
